Stefan Schmidt is the current Representative of Schleswig-Holstein for Migration Affairs.

 

In 2004, Stefan Schmidt rescued 37 refugees from drowning in the Mediterranean. He was then prosecuted by the Italian authorities and it took 5 years until in 2009 he and his colleagues were acquitted.

 

Since this time he has tirelessly given presentations and talks to point out the situation of refugees in their worst hours of peril, risking their life for freedom. He is cofounder of the NGO “Borderline Europe – Human Rights without Borders”.
